Erika is a board certified genetic counselor who currently works in a prenatal and cancer genetics setting. She meets with patients for a wide variety of referral indications including: personal/family history of genetic disease or cancer, ultrasound anomalies, abnormal genetic carrier test, abnormal maternal serum screening, abnormal CVS/amniocentesis, advanced maternal age, pregnancy loss, and medication exposure. Erika’s main role is to help educate patients about potential risks and to discuss the benefits and limitations of available testing options. Erika also routinely provides genetic risk assessments for potential ovum donors at various fertility practices. She consistently writes formal patient reports and has assisted in the development of several patient/physician brochures.
Erika began her undergraduate career at The College of New Jersey where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and also obtained two minors in Psychology and Chemistry. Erika then graduated from Arcadia University with a Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling. She completed several successful internships at collaborating institutions such as The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Saint Christopher’s Hospital for Children, and Christiana Hospital. Erika’s graduate thesis was accepted as a poster presentation at the 2008 annual education conference sponsored by the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC). She was granted board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) in 2009 and is currently an active member of both the NSGC and Human Genetics Association of New Jersey (HGANJ).
